What is Pilates?

Pilates is a low-impact, controlled form of exercise that focuses on building core strength, improving posture, increasing flexibility and developing body awareness. Unlike high-intensity workouts, Pilates works by targeting deep stabilising muscles through precise, mindful movements, making it effective for women of all ages, fitness levels and physical abilities.

Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century and has since become one of the most popular and evidence-backed forms of exercise for women’s health and wellbeing worldwide. Regular Pilates practice is known to improve posture, reduce back pain, build functional strength and support mental wellbeing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is It Suitable For Beginners?

Absolutely. All of our Pilates classes in Bradford are suitable for complete beginners. Our instructors will always offer modifications so you can work at the right level for your body.

Is Pilates High Intensity?

No. Pilates is a low to moderate intensity form of exercise focused on controlled, precise movement rather than speed or high impact. It is ideal for women who want to build strength and flexibility without putting strain on their joints.

Why Choose Women-Only Pilates in Bradford?

Many women find that a women-only environment makes a significant difference to how comfortable and confident they feel in class. At Club Ekta our Pilates sessions are exclusively for women, which means you can focus fully on your practice without distraction or self-consciousness.

Our instructors understand the specific physical and emotional needs of women and bring that care and knowledge into every session. Whether you are managing a health condition, recovering from injury, returning to exercise after having children or simply starting your fitness journey for the first time, you will always be met with patience, encouragement and genuine expertise.

How Is Pilates Different From Yoga?

While both Pilates and yoga focus on the mind-body connection, they are different disciplines. Pilates primarily targets core strength, postural alignment and functional movement. Yoga has a broader spiritual dimension and focuses more on flexibility, breathwork and meditation. Club Ekta offers both — you can find our women’s yoga classes here.

Sessions typically last one hour and include a warm-up, a series of core and stability exercises, and a cool-down stretch. You do not need any previous Pilates experience to join and you do not need to bring any equipment — everything is provided at our Cedar Court Hotel studio.

What Should I Wear To Pilates?

Comfortable, form-fitting exercise wear works best for Pilates as it allows your instructor to see your alignment and offer corrections. Grip socks are recommended for mat work and are available to purchase at the studio. For Reformer Pilates sessions, grip socks are mandatory.

Can I Just Turn Up To A Session?

No, all sessions must be booked in advance as spaces are limited. Participants must be registered and pre book sessions.

Can I Join If I’m Pregnant Or Have Health Conditions?

Please speak to us beforehand. We’ll do our best to accommodate you safely, or suggest more suitable options.
