Our Story

From a park in Bradford to a movement that keeps growing.

It started with a football. In August 2021, a small group of women gathered in a local Bradford park for a casual kickabout. No facilities. No funding. Just a shared desire to move, connect, and carve out a space that felt truly theirs.
That first session sparked something none of us expected. Women kept coming back and bringing others with them. It became clear that what we were building wasn’t just a football group. It was a community that Bradford’s women had been quietly waiting for.

The Early Days

As our community grew, so did our ambitions. We began offering fitness sessions in school halls, community centres, and council leisure facilities across West Yorkshire. Boxing. Bhangra. Yoga. Badminton. Each new activity brought new women through the door, many of whom had never felt welcomed in mainstream gyms or sports settings.
It wasn’t always easy. Finding accessible, consistent spaces for women-only activities came with constant challenges. Limited availability, restricted budgets, and venues that weren’t always built with our community in mind. But the energy of our growing membership kept us going. Every session reminded us why we started.

Finding Our Home

In 2025, we found a home. Club Ekta moved into its own base at Cedar Court Hotel Bradford — a dedicated space where our members could come together for fitness, wellbeing, and friendship, without compromise.

The Woman Behind It
Club Ekta was founded by Harleen Kaur, a former international athlete who knows firsthand what sport can do for a woman’s confidence, identity, and mental strength. After years competing at the highest level, Harleen turned her attention to the women in her own city who deserved that same transformative experience, regardless of background, ability, or how long it had been since they last moved their body.
Her vision was simple: create a space where every woman in Bradford feels strong, seen, and supported.
That vision is Club Ekta.

What Ekta Means
Ekta means unity, and that is what we continue to build. One class, one connection, one community at a time.
From a park in Bradford to a growing movement across West Yorkshire, we’re just getting started.
